Michael Schmidt was born at Heilbronn, Germany, in 1961. he graduated in engineering from the University of Stuttgart in 1989. Subsequently, he attended the Faculty of Design for Property Investments at the Stuttgart Academy of Art. He then worked as a designer in the design and advanced conception office at Mercedes Benz. He left there in 1992 to set up the design studio "DesignWorX" with a partner. In 1995 he opened his own design studio "code.2.design".

Collaboration with Falper includes the Scoop bathtub and basin and the new serie Shape.

The Scoop bathtub was awarded with the Red Dot Design Award in 2007.
